The mighty Maharajas (King of Kings) of Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodphur, Bikaneer built their palaces, cities and forts historically to protect the people against foreign invasions. They constructed huge palaces with hundreds of rooms where each room was dedicated to a different purpose – for dance, for theatre, for summer, for winter, for romance. They paid great care and attention to the aesthetics of these sprawling constructions. Ornate tiling, opulent murals, intricate metal and stonework all spoke of status. Many of the raw materials used for constructing these palaces were brought from all over the world. The more detail, the more luxury! The Maharajas would live in their palaces with their wives, numerous concubines, nobles, musicians and entertainers for many generations.
Some of these medieval palaces have now been converted into the hotels in which you will stay. Now, even though many of these palaces have fallen into ruin, the valor and opulence of the Rajas is still evident.
