Ama Yangri (3,771 m) is one of the finest short treks near Kathmandu, located in the Helambu region of Sindhupalchok. The trek offers spectacular sunrise views over the Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar, and on exceptionally clear days, even Everest. The trail also passes through beautiful Hyolmo (Yolmo) villages, monasteries, and rhododendron forests.
Depart Kathmandu after an early breakfast and enjoy a scenic 5–6-hour drive (approximately 110 km) through the picturesque countryside, following the route via Melamchi to the traditional Hyolmo village of Tarkeghyang (2,600 m). Along the journey, pass charming hillside settlements, lush forests, terraced farmlands, and winding mountain roads that offer beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes.
Upon arrival, visit the historic Tarkeghyang Monastery, one of the oldest and most important Buddhist monasteries in the Helambu region, and take a leisurely walk through the village to experience the unique culture, architecture, and warm hospitality of the Hyolmo community. After the village visit, begin a 3-hour uphill hike through peaceful rhododendron and pine forests to Ama Yangri Base Camp, where you can relax amidst the tranquil mountain surroundings in preparation for the following day's summit hike.

The summit is adorned with colorful prayer flags, making it a peaceful and spiritual place to pause, take photographs, and soak in the magnificent mountain scenery.
